Perhaps an object used for matches or a game. Underneath there is another piece of straw marquetry which has been glued, reminiscent of a fleur-de-lys. The whole is late 18th century early 19th century beautifully made. For the condition, note that the box is damaged: tears, lack of marquetry in several places, tape, wear and friction. The whole remains presentable but it is necessary to accept the defects due to age. Straw marquetry is an art very similar to that of wood marquetry, in which straw replaces wood veneer. It is a technique from the Far East that was imported to Europe in the 17th century. Our numerous photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the object. For the state thank you for detailing the photos. Do not hesitate to zoom. The photos are an integral part of the description.
