It was made with great finesse. Two fishermen on foot move away in the bay. Points of freckles are to be noted, the work remains in a suitable condition. For the state thank you for detailing the photos. Do not hesitate to zoom. Pierre Brette, official painter of the Navy Official painter of the Navy, was born in Brest in 1905 and died in Granville in 1961. Pierre Brette spent a large part of his life in western France, Brittany and Normandy. He was a watercolor artist. He painted and drew the landscapes of these regions: seascapes, ports, boats, fishing scenes, sunken lanes, dunes, moors, landscapes… Public collections have acquired his works, including the National Maritime Museum in 1958 and 1959. The Granville Museum and that of Normandy have many works by Pierre Brette. Without reaching the rating of his colleague Marin-Marie, the works of Pierre Brette attract more and more amateurs, seduced by the quality of his watercolors. From his birth in Lambézellec, a town close to Brest, Pierre Brette was immersed in a maritime environment, since his father was a merchant clerk, sales manager for the Union des docks. Very quickly, he was fascinated by the life of the port, the environment of the quays that he took pleasure in designing. After failing at naval school, he turned to practical business school, while continuing to practice watercolor. Established in Cherbourg as a sales representative, Pierre Brette successfully transcribes the maritime landscapes of northern Cotentin. In superb sketchbooks, made in 1944, the painter testifies to the state of the coast at the time of the Allied landings in Normandy. In 1946, he met Marin-Marie in Granville, who encouraged him to present his works at the Salon de la Marine. We also owe to Marin-Marie the appointment of Brette in 1962 posthumously as painter of the navy. Pierre Brette was a member of the Bas Normands artists, the French School and the Salon des Artistes Français. Pierre Brette is an artist who has spent most of his life in Brittany. Collectors are lovers of Brittany and its traditions. Trawlers, walk at the foot of Mont Saint Michel, landscapes of Chausay, so many subjects which plunge us into the Breton intimacy.
