Watercolor by Ernest Guérin Fishing village Brittany 20th A4846 This scene is typical of Ernest Guérin's painting. It represents a fishing village, on the left men are gathered around a bench and on the right are the women at work, in headdresses. In the distance, we can see the sea with boats, in the center a village street. This village is probably identifiable. This work was reframed in June 1977 in Brest, it is a baguette frame. The watercolor is large in size, which is rather rare. Ernest Guérin (1887-1952) is a French painter renowned for his Breton paintings, but who was also an orientalist painter with some Tunisian works. Original artist, he practices with the same happiness the gouache, the watercolor, the illumination and takes part in many living rooms. His reputation grew rapidly through the character of his work, which depicted the harshness of life, the customs of Breton peasants, the traditional religious festivals and the wild character of Brittany through its landscapes, its climate and its atmospheres. It testifies to the traditions of village life and the influence of religious beliefs on daily life. This watercolor is in superb condition. We report minimal freckles.
