Hunting, also called "hunting with hounds", is an ancestral hunting method that consists of pursuing a wild animal (traditionally deer, wild boar, roe deer, fox or hare) with a pack of hounds, until it is exhausted and captured. Only dogs hunt, thanks to their sense of smell and predatory instinct. The role of the man, generally on horseback for the occasion, is to control and follow them.
Hunting with hounds is practiced in France, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy and Portugal (Santo Huberto's crew). In France, deer, roe deer, wild boar, fox, hare and rabbit are hunted with hounds.

Description of an expert in the gazette des armes N°146 of October 1985
Your sabre is a very beautiful German hunting weapon and of remarkable quality of execution. The engraved blade bears the mark of unidentified Styrian workshops. According to the style, we date it between 1740 and 1760. As for the text and the date engraved on the blade, they certainly have a meaning, but this escapes us.
