The yatagan is a Turkish weapon with a curved blade and whose cutting edge forms, towards the point, a re-entrant curve. Probably derived from the machaira, this saber measures 60 to 80 cm long. The yatagan gave its shape to the bayonets of the 19th century, because its shape (slightly flamed) allowed it to be fixed very close to the bore of the rifle without reducing the accuracy of the shot and without being burned by the powder.
Before the beginning of French colonization and the introduction of the guillotine in Algeria in 1843 (and even after), the yatagan will be used for the decapitation of those condemned to death (Algiers was then a vassal of the Ottoman Empire).
Total length: 43 cm
Length without scabbard: 42.2 cm
Blade length: 18.7 cm
Length of the handle: 11.6 cm

A very rare and beautiful variant of the Yatagan saber, a large short type dagger/dagger. The handle is brown horn, with three rivets on each side, quite solid, inlaid with a bronze or copper film. The blade is in very good condition, still shiny. The scabbard is made of leather, in good condition. A magnificent and rare piece, totally original and rare in this condition! Scabbard not original in my opinion.
