The Talwar originated alongside other curved swords such as the Persian Shamshir, the Turkish Kilij and the Afghan Pulwar, all of which were originally derived from earlier curved swords developed in Turkic Central Asia.
There are many variations of the Talwar sabre with different types of blades. Some blades are very unusual. However, all of these blades are curved, and the vast majority of Talwars have blades more typical of a so-called regulation Talwar sabre. Many models of the Talwar sabre feature an increased curvature at the mid-point of the blade. A widening of the blade near the tip is relatively common. It is believed that the blade of the British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sabre is similar to some examples of the Talwar, the Talwar sabre may have contributed to the design of the British sabre.
Total length: 83 cm
Length without scabbard: 78.5 cm
Blade length: 65 cm
Length of the handle: 13.5 cm
Blade width: 3.1 cm
Conditions:
This is a superb Indian Talwar saber. The handle is made of white steel, quite robust in good condition. The blade is curved and in very good condition for its age. The saber is with its original scabbard which is in good condition, still solid, without any missing parts, which is very rare, probably restored leather. Talwar sabers are sold in most cases without a scabbard because they were made of rudimentary materials (wood, leather, trim). Very beautiful saber recovered in a garage sale, never cleaned, in very good condition for its age. Do not hesitate, the saber is very beautiful and pleasant to hold in hand and to look at.
By purchasing this superb saber, you will be in possession of a rare model of the legendary Indian saber '' Talwar '' which inspired the most famous British manufacturers in the design of their sabers. It will be a wonderful addition to your Talwar collection or enhance your display case as an exotic piece
