TEST PROOF BY FRANCOIS PIERRE BARRY THE FARM OF THE 4 PERREL BROTHERS H3286This test proof was produced by Pierre Barry, it represents the farm of the 4 Perrel brothers. Note traces, stains / foxing, traces of tape (on the top), tears / creases on the bottom. It is signed in pencil lower right Barry P. François Pierre Barry, born in Marseilles on May 13, 1813 and died in Saint-Laurent-du-Var on September 3, 1905, is a French painter. Initially a hairdresser and wigmaker, François Pierre Barry entered the drawing school in Marseille directed by Augustin Aubert. He then went to Paris in 1840 where he was a pupil of Théodore Gudin, then of Isabey. he is much appreciated for his seascapes, two of them obtaining a 3rd class medal at the Salon of 1840, and for his views of the port of Marseilles. He was elected in 1853 to the Academy of Marseille. He left for Egypt in 1862 to visit the works of the Suez Canal with Prince Napoléon-Jérôme Bonaparte, Ferdinand de Lesseps and Jules Charles-Roux. His paintings and numerous drawings are a valuable source for knowledge of the Orient. He was still in Alexandria in 1865 where he frequented the milieu of Marseille merchants. At the end of his life he retired to Saint-Laurent-du-Var from where he painted Provençal landscapes. François Pierre Barry was named Knight of the Legion of Honor on December 28, 1882.
