The village of Sars-Poteries (North department) owes the second part of its name to the numerous artisanal pottery factories which date back to the 18th century. In 1838, there were nine earthenware potteries, eight stoneware potteries, and a quarry. of fossil ashes. Only small workshops (Maine, Lempire, etc.) which manufactured pots, jugs, vases and various containers still remained in the 1970s and 1980s.
