Resurrected Christ in polychrome carved wood gilded with 17th century leaf H5492 Here is a resurrected Christ from the 17th century, it has its original gilding, a superb drape and is beautifully made. For the condition, note a little wear of the gilding, we note that the left forearm is missing, the feet are broken, the drape at the back of the right hand is broken, it is barely holding together. However, this Christ remains in a generally presentable condition. Throughout Antiquity and the first two thirds of the Middle Ages, the Resurrection is represented by images faithfully inspired by the text of the Gospel itself: soldiers sleeping near an open tomb, holy women arriving in the presence of an angel.
