Historical context:

During the fighting of September - October 1830 a certain number of Belgian cavalrymen from the regiments described above deserted and joined the Belgian revolution. In October 1830 the Provisional Government created 2 regiments of horse hunters, two regiments of lancers and a regiment of cuirassiers. For example, the 1st regiment of lancers was formed on the basis of Belgian elements of the 4th, 5th Dragoons and 10th Dutch Lancers.

In 1833 a regiment of guides was created, and in 1836 a 2nd regiment of cuirassiers.

The armament of the cavalrymen consisted of:

- The curved sabre model 1822 for all.
- Except for the cuirassiers equipped with the straight sabre and a cuirass made in Liège. - A musket and/or a percussion pistol.
- An ash lance with a tricolor flame for lancers.

Total length: 107 cm

Length without scabbard: 105 cm

Blade length: 89 cm

Length of the handle: 15.5 cm

Blade width: 3.1 cm

Description of the object:

I am proud to present to you this superb and rare and massive Belgian cavalry officer's sabre. The handle is covered with black leather, filigree with a three-pronged dart. The blade is curved, massive, it has an approval mark on the heel '' LD '' as well as '' other markings: FL DG + LION BELGE 1891 + L ''. A central fuller, very beautiful and patinated blade, in its own juice. Steel scabbard, very solid. I am parting with it because it is not my field of collection, the piece is absolutely superb and I am sure that it will find a place of choice in the display case of another enthusiast of Belgian military history! A saber that is simply unique and unobtainable in any condition. A similar example can be seen in the Royal Army Museum in Brussels, very rare!!!

It is certain that by acquiring this splendid and rare saber of the troops of the Belgian army, you will be in possession of a very rare witness to the history of Belgium. You will also be in possession of a beautiful blade forged by the best Belgian gunsmiths of the time, but also a souvenir of the last dynasty of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. To summarize, a magnificent and rare piece to seize absolutely
