The model 1882 infantry officer saber is a French saber, adopted in 1882 by the Artillery Service for senior and junior infantry officers.
The inspiration for the 1882 model comes from the fantasy infantry saber of the African army. This model devotes the system of attaching the scabbard to a single bail, which has become a standard: it is the first saber model which has only one original bail.

Very beautiful infantry officer's saber, blade close to new, probably engraved ''MANUFACTURE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE CHATELLERAULT, Mle 1882'' (to be verified), with a central groove, fits perfectly into its sheath. The handle is in white metal and wood with remains of filigree, scabbard in its original condition with its original leather and its gray fabric cover and its superb brown leather strap! Piece found in Gerpinnes in Belgium, in its original state for any informed collector, passionate about WW1. Very pleasant to hold in the hands and even more pleasant to observe in the window!
