PAIR OF PORTRAITS EARLY 19TH EMPIRE FRAME PALMETTES GOLD OIL CARDBOARD C2491 This pair of portraits is oil on paper. they are early 19th, no doubt about the time. They represent a couple in period costume. The frames are also 19th. They are decorated with palmettes with gold leaf gilding. The quality is there in the rendering of the faces, in the technique. Amazing embossed crackle background. At first I thought they were chanci, but when I opened them I noticed the absence of opacifying alteration and especially that the subjects are "framed" by this effect. This brings out the subject and gives perspective accentuating the realism of the faces Note wear and friction on the frames, cracks on the wood as well as some gaps: Portrait of the gentleman: - 2 small gaps in gilding at the top of the interior frieze , on the right side of the outer frieze a crack, 3 gaps on the outer border of the frieze with palmettes. 1 larger than the others on the lower right. And two gaps on the left side and 1 gap on the left side. On the portrait of the woman: - 2 not very important gaps: - 1 on the upper part of the lower edge of the frieze with palmettes, - 1 on the upper left part (really very small). - 1 scratch on the gilding still on the left side. - 3 small cracks on the lower part of the palmette frieze. We opened them, no signature. Note wear on the edges of the paintings at the level of the part covered by the frame, visible only if you open them. For the state thank you for detailing the photos. The photos are an integral part of the description. Dimensions: Frames Height: 26.5 cm Thickness: 4.2 cm Width: 23 cm Painting Height: 15.8 cm Width: 11.8 cm D: 679190S: 81XF9SQR I remain at your disposal for any questions.
