PAIR OF BRONZE BOOKENDS BY CARVIN ART DECO 1930 BLACK MARBLE E671This pair of parakeet bookends is characteristic of the Art Deco period, they are signed with the prestigious "CARVIN" signature. Louis Albert Carvin (1875-1951) is a French sculptor. Member of the Society of French Artists, he exhibited at the Salon of this society from the end of the 19th century to 1933. Carvin produced La Muse de l'aviation, a bronze trophy offered on May 1, 1909, by Léon Bollée, president of the Aeroclub de la Sarthe, to the brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright. Specializing in animal sculpture, he took stags, hinds, lions, lionesses, panthers, birds, wolfdogs, and sometimes horses as models, such as the group L'Accolade representing a couple of thoroughbreds. , produced by the J.B. foundry in Paris. The bronze was executed with great finesse. There is a nice original gilding. The marble is typical black 1930. We note chips on the marble (they were photographed).
