Painting on canvas by Jean GOUJON (1915-1996): the golden age
circa 1965-1968
dimensions: 60 cm x 81 cm
Jean GOUJON (1915-1996) liked to receive his friends and collectors in his workshop in Vallauris, a stone's throw from Cannes. The Côte d'Azur: it is in this region that he painted numerous landscapes which celebrate the Mediterranean light. Enthusiastic and passionate, his character is expressed with passion through the sunny landscapes of the south that he loved so much, where the trees, the olive trees in particular, challenge us, as if whipped by the force of the mistral. Horses also play an important role in this warm work, where exuberance and joie de vivre burst forth at every moment. More subtle, the themes of symbolism and mystery sometimes mingle with these relaxing compositions, imbued with a vaporous poetry, even a suave sensuality (see on this subject the paintings "L'Age d'Or" and "La jeunesse jasmine woman").
