Félix BENOIST (1818-1896) Original pencil drawing "Eglise de Thoraize (Doubs)" May 20, 1860 unsigned 21 x 13 cm Provenance: studio funds of the artist Félix Benoist, born April 15, 1818 in Saumur (Maine-et-Loire) and died September 20, 1896 in Nantes, is a French painter, draftsman and lithographer, author of views of cities, monuments and landscapes (notably in France - in Brittany and Normandy -, in Italy, England, Russia, etc.) Félix Benoist was born April 15, 1818 in Saumur. Félix Benoist drew for the engraver and publisher based in Nantes, Pierre Henri Charpentier, and especially for his son, Henri-Désiré Charpentier (1806-1883): the “H. Charpentier establishments”, specialized in the publication of lithographs, had also opened a shop in Paris. Benoist, among other things, participated in the remarkable collection, Paris dans sa splendeur (1861-1863), containing more than 100 lithographs, some of which are from photographs, including aerial views, and some 38 woodcuts. His works are notably preserved at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Saint-Brieuc, Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Angers, Musée de Cherbourg, Musée de Senlis, etc. Authenticity:Original Material:Pencil Period:19th century and before Type:Drawing Theme:Landscape
