Félix BENOIST (1818-1896) Original pencil drawing "Eglise de Thoraize (Doubs)" May 20, 1860 unsigned 21 x 13 cm Provenance: studio funds of the artist Félix Benoist, born April 15, 1818 in Saumur (Maine-et-Loire) and died September 20, 1896 in Nantes, is a French painter, draftsman and lithographer, author of views of cities, monuments and landscapes (notably in France - in Brittany and Normandy -, in Italy, England, Russia, etc.) Félix Benoist was born April 15, 1818 in Saumur. Félix Benoist drew for the engraver and publisher based in Nantes, Pierre Henri Charpentier, and especially for his son, Henri-Désiré Charpentier (1806-1883): the “H. Charpentier establishments”, specialized in the publication of lithographs, had also opened a shop in Paris. Benoist, among other things, participated in the remarkable collection, Paris dans sa splendeur (1861-1863), containing more than 100 lithographs, some of which are from photographs, including aerial views, and some 38 woodcuts.
