It recognizes individuals who have rendered distinguished service, both civilian and military, to the country. It originally had eight classes and was for men only. It was extended to women on May 22, 1919. Like other Japanese decorations, it was revised in 2003. In good general condition, we report friction, scratches and wear on the medal, dirt on the ribbon, for the box of friction and micro-scratches and small losses on the interior corners, all visible in our photos.
