Lithograph image of Epinal from the end of the 19th century. This lithograph is framed under glass. It represents a cow and a bull in a meadow. very nice quality frame Dimension 50.5 x 46cm Weight 2kg The images of Epinal were images produced in the capital of the Vosges by the Pellerin factory, created in 1796, and alone on the market throughout most of the 19th century. The idea of a cliché, of a preconceived idea associated with the expression today comes from the fact that the Pellerin family sold with great success in France, particularly through peddling, its typical brightly colored images which topically represented tales, legends, scenes from religious life, characters and events from the history of France or the great figures and soldiers of the Napoleonic Empire, extracts from novels or news items, then boards which presented moralizing stories intended for children. The dissemination of these images to a wide audience probably contributed to constituting the Napoleonic legend, and a collective representation of the history of France. Indeed, they fix in images key moments of the national novel. More broadly, they participated in the trivialization of graphic narration characterized by a succession of different sequences: the comic strip spreads to the masses. However, the "images d'Épinal" were quickly forced to diversify in the face of competition from the press and the production of other image makers, such as Albert Quantin, who called on press cartoonists. Partner of the Parisian publicist Glucq, Charles Pellerin, grandson of Jean-Charles Pellerin, developed in particular plates that mixed advertising and pedagogy, by praising an advertising product in comic strip form. He also developed purely educational plates. Pretty decoration represented for a farm decoration, children's bedroom decoration, country and rustic decoration.
