Description

This vase comes from the Couleuvre factory, in the Allier department in France. It is a limited edition. The handles of this vase are in the shape of a swan. André de Sinéty, Marquis de Lévis, created a porcelain factory at the Château de Lévis in Lurcy-Lévis in 1788, a few kilometers north of Couleuvre. In the 19th century, from 1854-18551, this activity developed in Couleuvre, where high-quality kaolin was extracted. The proximity of the Tronçais and Champroux forests, which could provide wood to fuel the kilns, was also an asset. The factory initially produced ordinary pieces, but after the war of 1870, under the leadership of Paul Burguin, it launched into more ambitious productions. After the latter's death in 1891, production declined. From 1930, under the direction of Albert Laurent, the factory turned to more artistic productions (tableware, vases, medicine jars, etc.). The decorations were copied from old models, but the factory also addressed contemporary artists. Thus, Jean Cocteau entrusted it with 34 original drawings. The Couleuvre factory acquired an international reputation. in good condition Dimensions: 27.5 in height and 14 cm in diameter
