OLD NAVAJA KNIFE CROTALE TAIL LATE XIXTH GIGODIAS THIERS BLADE M642 This old Navaja type knife has a blade made by Girodias in Thiers, it is probably late 19th century, the horn and brass handle bears an emblem representing we think a wolf that we do not did not identify. Originally we think Catalan or Spanish and after some research we did not identify its manufacture, we remain attentive for any information. The stationery factory in Thiers is mentioned as a paper mill in 1773. In 1836, it belongs to the paper maker Guillemot Malmenayde. From the 1850s until the 1870s, the building housed a spinning wheel, that is to say a factory in which one proceeds to the cutting of the blades of knives. This spinning wheel is the property of Boyer. Cutler Girodias Chabrol bought the factory in the 1870s and transformed it into cutlery. In 1905, he sold his business to the cutler Maubert Ménière, who in 1923 founded the company France Exportation. We report, pitting on the blade and the brass, friction, micro-scratches and defects on the horn, defects on the ring at the end of the handle, unfortunately the end of the blade is blunt, everything is visible in the photos . Despite these flaws, it remains a superb piece for an informed collector. We did a rough cleaning. For the state thank you for detailing the photos. Do not hesitate to zoom. The photos are an integral part of the description. DIMENSIONS: Closed length: 19.3 cm Open length: 34.5 cm Blade length: 14.7 cm Handle length: 19.3 cm Max blade width: 3.4 cm I remain at your disposal for any questions.
