Lipp josef (1900-1982) Oil on unalite panel measuring 50 x 40 cm in its original used frame (56.5x46.5cm) representing a view of Lake Misurina in Italy. Joseph Lipp (often spelled Josef Lipp) was a German artist who lived and worked his entire life on the family estate in Weißensee. He was unable to attend school due to economic reasons and learned woodcutting self-taught from the age of 18. Besides oil painting, he also used the copper engraving technique. The central theme of his art was the Allgäu Alpine landscapes. More than 100 of his works are listed in the historical Alpenarchive of the Alpenvereine in Germany, Austria and Südtirol. Some of his woodcuts were used to illustrate articles in the art and literature journal Judend in the 1930s. To give the full extent of its pastel luminosity, the panel will need a little cleaning.
