Oil on canvas portrait of a bearded man 19th century gilded frame Stamp Jérome Ottoz H L3103Here is a quality portrait to be placed in the second part of the 19th century, it represents a man from the bourgeoisie wearing a finely trimmed beard, a frock coat. The work has not been restored or prepared, we must accept the defects, we point out small marks on the paint in places, small gaps on the frame, however it remains presentable. Jérôme Ottoz (based at 22 rue La Bruyère, supplier of Corot, Fromentin, of whom we have a portrait by Degas). The works bearing the same stamp "Ange Ottoz, rue de la Michodière, n°2" are dated from 1830 (Dubuffe), 1855 (Fromentin) until 1868 (Corot). This merchant of the rue de la Michodière, the Gaillon Fountain will succeed initially (Albums of Corot, 1868) then Henry from 1884. Jérôme Ottoz was born in 1819. He is the merchant of colors, supplier of paintings and friend of Corot. He died in 1885. His son, Émile René Ottoz (1863-1934) was a painter and restorer of paintings.
