Oil on canvas by Jean Burkhalter representing a mill at the water's edge, a landscape of the Auxerre region where he comes from. Signed lower left. Gilded wooden frame.
This painter, born in Auxerre in 1895 and died in Avallon in 1982, remained very attached to his region of origin, the Yonne, whose landscapes he often painted. His work diversified over the years and he was at the same time a painter, architect and decorator (creator of fabrics, silverware pieces, etc.). For 14 years, he was Director of the School of Decorative Arts and several of his paintings are exhibited in museums.
An accident above the mill chimney and some missing parts on the painting require restoration.
The photos are part of the description.
