Oil on canvas 19th century Dupuy pseudonym of Gallien-Laloue Eugène herd of cows Barbizon H7001 This work which bears the Dupuy signature was created by Gallien Laloue. Eugène Galien-Laloue, also known under the pseudonyms Léon Dupuy, Eugène Dupuy... is a French painter and engraver (1854-1941). He was a student of Léon Germain Pelouse (1838-1891), painter of the Barbizon School, of whom he was influenced but without being part of it. He painted landscapes of Normandy, Seine-et-Marne, Marseille, Italy and Venice. The pictorial production of this artist, under his name or pseudonym, was plethoric, and his commercial success attracted imitators whose pastiches are common on the art market. The work is old, it represents cows on the banks of a river. The work has not been cleaned or restored. Note stains on the paint, traces of wear, a hole is visible in the upper part (sky), gaps on the frame and wear in places on the gilding, a corner on the left rear is broken .
