Early 19th century Neapolitan gouache Villa Galla Naples eruption of Vesuvius  H3699 This early 19th century Neapolitan gouache is finely executed. It represents the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius erupting in the background. Very fresh in color, we can see boats on the horizon, a farmer in the foreground, vegetation and all the architecture of the city. It is not signed. On the other hand, it bears the marking "VILLA GALLA". There are different qualities in Neapolitan gouaches, we are here in a sumptuous quality. Very fine, executed with great precision and great finesse. As for the condition, we report small accidents around the edges, friction and wear, particularly in the sky. Neapolitan gouaches attracted the interest of tourists in the 18th and 19th centuries, eager to return home with images and souvenirs of their journey.
