But, where he managed to spend most of this time in his hometown painting. Before returning to France in 1948 and finding his studio at the foot of the Butte Montmartre. An artist of Parisian life Oguiss's art is essentially views of Paris, transcribed in vibrant colors. He mainly depicts picturesque neighborhoods or markets, and typical shops like haberdasheries, stationery stores, wood or coal merchants. In addition to a very marked color palette, the artist also stands out with particular framing, because his street views are most often empty of human presence, but heavy with meaning. If human presence is made, it is always there to highlight small artisans, trades being doomed to disappear. Thus Oguiss places himself as an artist preserving the past. A great traveler, he will also travel around Europe and paint many views of Amsterdam, Antwerp and Venice. An artist of spirit, Oguiss is a multifaceted artist. He also wrote and illustrated Les Nouvelles de Paris in 1951. He also published his interviews Les jeunes peintres de France; in 1981, he published and illustrated Cinquante ans de ma vie artistique à Paris. Oguiss also turned to lithography, which allowed him to excel in the art of portraits and views of Paris. He takes us through the city in the manner of a stroll. A career linked to exhibitions Oguiss exhibited a large number of times throughout his career. First in Tsuguharu Foujita's circle of friends. As well as in other group exhibitions in Paris, from 1928 at the Salon d'Automne; then 1929 at the Salon des Indépendants; and in 1956 with Les Artistes en France. And around the world at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; or in 1957 at the exhibition of Landscapes of Saint-Denis from the 17th century to the present day. His Japanese career should not be overlooked either, where he exhibited in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya; as well as in London; where he favored solo exhibitions. Finally, many retrospectives have been held on his subject, notably in 1988 at the museums of Tokyo, Kuré, Nagoya, Kyoto, Kamakura; and four months before his death, in 1986, the Museum of Art and History of Saint-Denis. In 1983, in Inazawa, a museum was dedicated to him where his studio in the Cité Montmartre-aux-artistes was reconstructed Type:Lithograph Genre:Art Deco Characteristics:Signed Theme:Fashion
