The most commercially successful series was that of Francis Wheatley's Itinerant Trades of London (1796), first presented to the public in the form of small paintings in several exhibitions at the Royal Academy.
These images full of good feelings illustrate a desire for social consensus and erase all the tensions which emerged among Sandby and Rowlandson in the 18th century.
