Lard stone is a steatite (aluminous silicate, hydrate of iron and magnesia) imitating jade, pale green white in color with gray and orange marbling. Quite tender, it was used in the Far East for making small objects, statuettes, Fô dog, pagodas, magots, sculpted and polished seals. It was widely imported into Europe in the 18th century.
