KAKEJIKU WALL PANEL LANDSCAPE JAPANESE ART EARLY 20TH CENTURY
JAPAN, MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912)
Signed and caligraphed by the artist + inscription in Japanese on one end of the scroll (see photos).
Materials: Paper, silk thread fabrics + Wicker box
The kakejiku comes in the form of a scroll that is unrolled to hang on the wall in traditional-style Japanese houses. It is much more than a simple hanging work of art, it embodies the quintessence of Japanese aesthetics, linking nature, time and artistic delicacy in a scroll of transcendent beauty.
For the moment of tea, the choice of the kakejiku that adorns the room (chashitsu) is important and it is chosen in harmony with the seasons. The theme of the seasons is central to classical Japanese poetry, reinforced by Buddhist spirituality which emphasizes attention to the present and impermanence. The choice of a kakejiku, painting or calligraphy or painting accompanied by calligraphy, can also be related to the guests during this ceremony, and state a moral maxim to meditate on.
Condition: Very good condition with light, barely visible wear due to the age of the object.
Dimensions: Length 89 cm, width 24.5 cm, weight 81 g
