This mask can either be a mask from the Noh theater or it served as a name plate (as currently for our mailboxes). These masks were made in the likeness of the master of the place. In every town and village in Japan a craftsman specialized in their creation. This one is particularly expressive. The polychromy is original. You will note that this mask has not been touched, it is natural. As for the condition, we report friction, wear on the polychromy, lack of stucco particularly on the front, chin and around the edges, all visible in the photos.
