Guaiac is a very hard wood also called ironwood or ironwood.
Its density, one of the highest in the world for a plant, originates from the Antilles or Venezuela.
In the Middle Ages, these balls were made of yew, ash or oak wood then of guaiac, a very hard and heavy wood until the end of the 19th century,
which allows us to date the object in this case.
The balls are not spherical, but slightly crushed at both poles and their shape is asymmetrical with one pole more crushed than the other.
This characteristic gives them an elliptical trajectory, particularly marked when their speed is low.
Very nice collector's item or decoration.
