After a few months at the Lausanne School of Drawing, he went to Paris at the end of 1930 and attended various painting academies (Colarossi, Ranson, Grande Chaumière) until 1933. In 1934, he was in Maurice Denis' studio. He interrupted his Parisian training with study trips to Rome, Florence and Venice. From 1940 to 1945, he was in Geneva. At the end of the war, he returned to Paris. From 1952, he lived six months a year in Gordes (Vaucluse), which he only left to settle in the Château de Tertre in Normandy, owned by Roger Martin du Gard. Initially attracted by cubism and the theories of Severini, whom he encountered, he evolved towards a pictorial art where the values of color alone must, without reference to nature, give life to the painting. He died on September 2, 1991 in Sérigny-Bellême (Normandy).
