ENGRAVING GIOVANNI VOLPATO BERNARDINO NOCCHI RAPHAEL SANZIO PIO SEXTO PONT MAX “The Meeting between Leo I the Great and Attila” M1128 This interpretive engraving titled “Pio Sexto Pont Max” is based on a painting by Bernardo Nocchi and engraved by Joannes Volpato. Joannes Volpato (Giovanni Volpato, 1735-1803), is an Italian engraver who was also an entrepreneur (manufacturer of porcelain figurines) and dealer in antiquities following the first archaeological excavations in Rome. Bernardino Nocchi (1741-1812) Italian baroque and neoclassical painter active at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. For the condition, we report black spots, freckles, the paper is yellowed in various places, small tears around the edges, folds and creases around the edges and corners, rubbing and micro-scratches on the engraving, however it remains in a suitable state of conservation.
