Gabriel Griffon: watercolor representing a ball scene, gallant party. Dimensions: With the frame 42.5 x 29 cm Without the frame 35.5 x22.5 cm Signed lower left Frame to review Born in 1866 in Toulouse and died in 1938, (French School). He produced landscapes in light tones, populated by numerous characters, reduced to a harmonious symphony of light spots. It presents in a caressing light subjects of gallant parties, rounds of bathers, meadows streaked with sunlight and populated by nymphs and fauns evoking mythology and the gallant scenes of the French School of the 18th century (Watteau, Lancret... ) Appreciated sculptor, working for a long time in Bordeaux, he then shared his life between Nice and Agen (his house at 17 rue Carnot became the Griffon Museum). The one who at the beginning was only a Sunday painter quickly saw his reputation increase. We particularly appreciate the poetry of his watercolors where idyllic characters stand out in an ethereal light.
