He first intended for the theater but finally turned to painting after the Great War, during which he was a test pilot and from which he returned with the Military Medal and the Croix de guerre . He was also decorated with the Legion of Honor in 1939[1],[2]. He lived for some time in Montmartre, then moved to Challes-les-Eaux. In 1940, he was one of the founders of the Savoyard Group for literary, artistic and scientific coordination which organized the Salon de Savoie. He died on December 30, 1975 in Challes-les-Eaux. His older brother, Antoine Cariffa, was destined for the theater and was part of the Vieux Colombier troupe. He was killed during the First World War. His wife Sonca (1897-1989) and his daughter Tonia (born in 1924) are also painters[2].
