OIL ON CANVAS BY M LABARDE BEFFROI CONCARNEAU FORTIFICATION PORT BRETON M385Engraving by Jules Eugene Lenepveu early 19th century, representing the portrait of a man in a frock coat, which is probably identifiable with an inscription on a label on the back but we do not have it not deciphered, we are at your disposal for any information. Jules-Eugène Lenepveu, born December 13, 1819 in Angers and died October 16, 1898 in Paris, was a French painter. After studying at a drawing school, he trained in 1838 at the Royal and Special School of Fine Arts in Paris. He was a pupil of François-Édouard Picot. He obtained the Prix de Rome in 1847 and arrived in Rome the following year. His pension ends on December 31, 1852 but he remains two more years in Italy. On his return to France, he produced vast historical compositions for the Palais de Justice in Paris, the General Hospice in Angers and the ceiling of the Nouvel Opéra in Paris, among others. The ceiling painted by Lenepveu at the Opera was then covered by a work by Marc Chagall. Lenepveu was director of the Académie de France in Rome from 1873 to 1878 Note stains in the margin, pitting and rubbing on the engraving. The gilt frame is damaged in several places.
