Vernon, NY He was the son of Christian Wilhelm and Minna M. Rost. Christian Rost was an artist of German origin, having studied in Paris and London. He was highly regarded for his woodcuts and copper engravings - renderings of government buildings on banknotes and official documents; images on early postage stamps (see United States Museum Essays and Proofs; 3-cent stamp); and earlier for documenting the Crystal Palace and other exhibits from the 1850 World's Fair in London.
