ENGRAVING BY NICOLAS LANCRET INNOCENCE MUSEE DU LOUVRE E BOULAY Nicolas Lancret Nicolas Lancret, born January 22, 1690 in Paris where he died September 14, 1743, is a French painter. He brilliantly portrayed the spirit of light comedy characteristic of the tastes and mores of French Regency society. Son of Robert Lancret (1645-1695), coachman then controller of the Saint-Antoine gate, Nicolas was destined from a young age for the profession of intaglio engraver. He received, for this purpose, from his elder brother, François-Joseph Lancret (1686-1752), who was a master engraver, the first drawing lessons for which he showed rare aptitudes. He then obtained from his parents to give up his job as an engraver for painting. For the condition, note small spots of oxidation and halos, pitting, slight crease from handling, trace of folding in places, small lack, micro - tearing...
