Bronze empty pocket Art Deco Decor Horse Palm Trees Signed Max LE VERRIER. Beautiful signature for this bronze empty pocket cup 10 cm in diameter. Max Le Verrier (1891-1973) is a French sculptor. Louis Octave Maxime Le Verrier was born to a jeweler father. His interest in the arts, and especially in drawing and sculpture, came early in his life. His father wanted his son to work in agriculture: he sent him to an agricultural school, against Le Verrier's wishes. He gave up very quickly and his father emancipated him. In 1909, Max Le Verrier left for England and became interested in aviation. He passed his military certificate and was sent to the front in 1915. A pilot and non-commissioned officer, he seriously began painting and sculpture, and met artists such as Bardin. He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva. At the armistice, Le Verrier returned to Paris, opened a workshop and made his first axe sculpture, "Pélican", in the style of the 1925s. It was signed "Artus", the artist's pseudonym. In 1919, he created his publishing house, following great success. He himself took care of the casting, chiselling, patina, and sale of the works. Seven years later, he opened his own company. Success was there, the company expanded, workers were hired. Through his sculptures, Le Verrier translated the fashions of the time, including the liberalization of women, with his famous "clarité" of 1928, which represented the woman with a "boyish" look (short hair, etc.). His source of inspiration came mainly from women, by creating dancers, gymnasts. In parallel with this theme, he tackled that of animals. Other than dancers and men, Le Verrier creates chandeliers, lamp bases, bookends... During the Second World War, the artist is a member of the Resistance, so he temporarily closes the workshop. After the liberation, he resumes the business, and directs it towards the creation of bronze objects: ashtrays, religious articles, medals... This French sculptor receives a gold medal at the first International Exhibition of Decorative Arts. His style is synonymous with eclectic, with a mixture of elegance and modernism. Under several influences (ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, tribal art...), he is interested in new technologies and their different forms. http://www.maxleverrier.com/francais/sculpteur.htm Dimension: 10cm Material: Bronze Width: 10 Color: Bronze Type: Bowl, Empty pocket
