Description

The Dutch chandelier is emblematic in the history of lighting in Western Europe. It appears in the bourgeois interiors of merchants from northern countries. During the 19th century, its large lighting fixtures were electrified. The one offered here has all the codes of the Dutch chandelier with its polished brass structure, its deeply hollowed S-shaped branches, the absence of glassware and especially its large sphere at the base of the chandelier. The arms are collapsed to allow the large sphere to reflect maximum light. Given the electrical wiring present at the time of dismantling, this luminaire was produced at the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. In the past, it has undergone repairs, notably at the level of the base of the second sphere, even photo. It was probably split during excessive tightening. We kept the repair and consolidated it, we moderated the tightening of the column so as not to weaken this weld. This breaks up the verticality of the whole a little without compromising its aesthetics. This is the story of this light, it is beautiful to hear.
The second sphere has a slight dent which is not perceptible in situ. These two “flaws” make a very moderately priced Dutch chandelier.
Passing through our workshops, it was completely dismantled and re-electrified with earthing. [ugs 83]
