Earthenware wall plate, from Caldas da Rainha (Portugal) and dating from the 1940s: a large lobster in the center, on a bed of sand strewn with seaweed, mussels and shells. Each element that composes it has been modeled and painted separately.
It is a three-dimensional, polychrome earthenware, with lead from Palissy, a method renowned for its naturalistic works in relief most often representing marine life. The back of the plate is signed and provided with holes allowing the fixing of a suspension cable.
Unfortunately, the object is not totally intact, the lobster has lost a few legs over time... As you can see in the photos, one leg is missing on the right and two on the left.
