This is a 1930's De Vilbiss (Atomer) No. 36 atomizer manufactured by the De Vilbiss Manufacturing Company, Toledo, Ohio. Physician, Dr. Allen De Vilbiss, developed a spray atomizer to provide an easier way to apply medication to patients' throats. His invention was so successful that by 1890 he had retired from medical practice and set up a company, De Vilbiss Manufacturing Company, to produce the atomizers. The metal parts are brass plated and the nose fitting (on the long end) and the fitting for the rubber tube and bulb are tapered for a press fit. The rubber tube and bulb were discarded due to age deterioration. The jar is made of pressed molded glass.
