Description


- Wayang Golek is specific to the island of Java.

- This is a rod puppet which will be used to stage stories taken from the sacred book Ramayana or Mahabharata.

- The first Wayang Golek appeared at the beginning of the 19th century in Cirebon and quickly developed in the country of Sunda.

- These puppets are made of wood and are finely carved and hand painted. Wood, batik, embroidery and trimmings make up these puppets.

These puppets are vintage and not a reproduction.


- Wayang means "Shadow" in Indonesian.

- In Indonesia puppets are also used during major religious festivals (in order to distract the gods).

This pair of puppets is in very good condition given their great age, normal wear and tear, they are vintage and therefore very old and not a reproduction.
