Color engraving Jardin des Plantes de Nantes drawn by Félix Benoist and lithographed by Eugène Ciceri and Philippe Benoist 19th century L6005 Beautiful representation of the Jardin des Plantes in Nantes, drawn by Félix Benoist and lithographed by Eugène Cicéri and Philippe Benoist. The view is taken from the entrance located on Boulevard de Sébastopol. This boulevard took its name in 1856, after the siege of Sevastopol, then was renamed Stalingrad Boulevard in 1946, in reference to the battle of the same name. From 1840, the Jardin des Plantes underwent major beautification and development work, thanks to the botanist Jean-Marie Écorchard, appointed director of the garden on January 1, 1840.  Transformed into an English garden, the Jardin des Plantes will be inaugurated in 1860.  This color engraving has a rod frame and protective glass.
