OIL ON CARDBOARD BY CHARLES HENRI CONTENCIN MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE THE TERRACES SUMMIT OF LA MEIJE THE VILLAGE OF LA GRAVE 20TH A4594This oil on cardboard is a work of Charles-Henri Contention. Behind there is an inscription indicating that the whole thing was carried out in 1939. I think that this mountain landscape represents the summit of La Meije and the village of La Grave, but I could not certify it to you. Clinging to the slope, at the foot of the mythical summit of La Meije, the village of La Grave, in the Hautes-Alpes, and its hamlets reflect the agricultural life of yesteryear. The stone-clad houses blend into the mountain in a natural harmony. We find here the work of Charles-Henri Contention with chalets covered in snow. The work has not been touched or restored. Here are the flaws that remain minimal, we report a few small black dots in the sky and the mountain at the top right and left, friction with paint wear in the mountain on the left and on the rock at the bottom right, all visible on photos. The frame was later changed. Charles-Henri Contencin (1898-1955) mainly depicts Savoy mountain ranges. However, he sometimes paints Mont-Blanc or the Swiss Alps. He also painted chalets framed by snow-capped mountains, as in the oil on panel "Mountain Landscape". In addition, it depicts mountain lakes such as Lac Cottepens (Sept Laux). Contention paints his works with a play of light: the reflection of the sun makes it possible to create a contrast between the soft colors of the lake or the snow and the brutality of the dark rocks, which contributes to the realistic aspect of his paintings. Such is the case in the oil on canvas Mountain Landscape. He leaves behind him sublime works that many collectors snap up. For the state thank you for detailing the photos. Feel free to zoom. The photos are an integral part of the description. Dimensions:- Frame: Height: 35 cm Thickness: 3 cm Width: 44 cm- Painting: Height: 22.5 cm Width: 31.5 cm S: 4E1VJGBRP: 1013706 I remain at your disposal for any questions.
