FLOWERED TERRACOTTA FEMALE BUST BY ALBERT ERNEST CARRIER DE BELLEUSE XIXTH ON SHOWER FOOT M1346This 19th century terracotta bust was made by A.E. Carrier-Belleuse. It bears the Carrier-Belleuse signature throughout. It is authentic and old. Albert-Ernest Carrier de Belleuse said Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) is a French sculptor. He was one of the most prolific artists of the century and had the greatest success under the Second Empire, benefiting from the personal support of Napoleon III. His work was greatly influenced by the style of the Italian Renaissance and that of the 18th century, which he helped bring up to date. From his workshop in Paris came a prodigious quantity of decorative statuettes. Carrier-Belleuse was, towards the end of his life, director of works of art at the Manufacture de Sèvres. His passage was marked by the renewal of the collections and the modernization of the style. This bust is very nervous, especially in the hair. You will notice that it rests on a wooden shower stand. It has its original patina. It has not undergone any restoration. We report, for the most picky, wear and friction, scratches. Note splits and stains on the foot.
