Adrien Étienne Gaudez was a student of François Jouffroy at the École des beaux-arts in Paris in 1862.
Prisoner of war in Magdeburg during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, he was notably responsible for the monument to the memory of the French prisoners of this city.
