This bronze is typical art deco, it represents Pierrot and Colombine. It is a most pleasant subject, they are dancing. It has a green and silver patina, the whole is original, natural. It is with a bearing marble 1930. This bronze exists in a silver version. We have the one with a double patina, more rare. The bronze is large in size, very cubist and beautifully made, very decorative. The chasing is there. Friction and wear to report. Defect in the marble, probably an old restoration. A few small dots of verdigris and a few black dots on Pierrot's head.Thomas François Cartier is a French sculptor and late practitioner of the animal style, a mid-19th century trend of naturalistic but fictionalized portraits of animals in both painting and sculpture. Cartier specializes in model-sized pieces depicting hunting dogs and large cats which are often placed inside clocks and other decorative items. He was born on February 21, 1879 in Marseilles and although little is written about him, he is known to have participated in the Paris Salons from 1904 and for which he won a gold medal in 1927.
