SILVER BRONZE BIRD SIGNED JEAN AND JOEL MARTEL BLACK MARBLE BASE H3649 This bird is a creation of the brothers Jean and Joël Martel. It is a bird in silvered bronze.This sculpture bears the Martel signature on the base under the feet. It is very well made. The patina is very pleasant and the quality of the carving is there. The base is in black marble.This type of bird achieves important results in the auction room, the Martel brothers are very famous. Take a good look at the photos but the beak seems slightly crushed. The twins Jean and Joël Martel, born March 5, 1896 in Nantes and died respectively on March 16 in Lille and September 25, 1966 in Paris - they are buried in Bois-de- Céné (Vendée), are French sculptors and decorators. Parisian artists, they spent a long time in Vendée, in their property in Mollin (between Challans and La Garnache), or in Saint-Jean-de-Monts, city in which we can see their last monumental work: Les Oiseaux de sea. Their works are sculptures, monuments or fountains of Art Deco or Cubist inspiration, and they carried out interior fittings in villas in the 1920s.
