Description

Magnificent Art Nouveau vase with a striking glaze in flamed stoneware.
Made by Charles Gréber in his studio in Beauvais, France, in the early 20th century.

Excellent condition. Signed by the artist.

A renowned ceramist, Charles Gréber (Beauvais 1853-1935) left a lasting mark on Beauvais ceramics and expanded the family business,
established by his father in 1870, while also making a name for himself. Once Johann Peters Gréber handed over management of his Beauvais stoneware manufacturing company
to his two sons (1880-1899), they continued to produce salt-glazed stoneware in keeping with the regional tradition.
However, the geometric decoration leans toward naturalism, in keeping with the popular trends of the time. Vine branches, wreaths, oak leaves, and realistic scenes are now found on stoneware.

Following the Parisian evolution, they also began producing glazed and architectural ceramics,

as well as glazed ceramics, in a green watercolor. The objects created during these years of Collaboration are signed,

once out of two, with an intaglio engraving of the letters "G.B" (Gréber Beauvais) in an oval shape.

After their father's death in 1898, the two brothers separated, and Charles took over the family pottery factory from 1899 to 1933.

There, he developed architectural ceramic cladding and flamed stoneware, which would henceforth become Gréber company specialties. It quickly gained a reputation and won several awards at national and international exhibitions, including the title of "Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur" in 1926.
