AFRICAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENT BALAFON WOOD XXTH L1484 This African musical instrument appears to be a balafon (a kind of xylophone found in many parts of Africa), it was probably brought back in the 1950s. You will notice a nice patina. The balafon is a kind of xylophone that originated in West Africa. It is made up of 16 to 27 blades of wood, producing as many different notes, which are struck with sticks and whose sound is amplified by calabashes arranged below. This instrument has not been restored, note wear and friction, scratches, splits, traces of paint, bites on certain balls, a broken grip, however it remains acceptable.
